Friday Night: Dinner & A Movie with Sony Pictures!
E Pasta: Elio Albanese found his calling in the restaurant business starting as a busboy in lower Manhattan. Years later it led to him owning a number of successful Italian restaurants, including Elio’s on the Upper East Side. Now his latest venture, E Pasta, brings his specialty of classic Northern Italian cooking to a fast casual experience. Amongst the busy streets of the Financial District, you won’t miss this place due to the giant neon yellow E that radiates from the window. Step inside to a casual, but modern looking cozy spot that can guarantee you a seat no matter what time of the day! Although deemed as “fast and casual”, the food did not disappoint one bit! We shared the Miller’s Wife Pasta, their signature 30-foot spaghetti with vodka sauce and meatballs. It even comes with scissors because the noodles are too big to slice with regular silverware! The Panzanella salad with 3 types of lettuce chopped with onion, hearts of palm, and asparagus was also amazing, served beautifully (literally wrapped in a cucumber slice!) and had the best balsamic vinaigrette on top. We usually go with dressing on the side, but keep this one as-is! The staff could not be nicer, or more efficient, making this the perfect place to fill up and still make your movie on time.
Jumani: Welcome To The Jungle: Only a 12-minute walk away from dinner is Regal Cinemas, which is playing the latest Sony Pictures adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle! Get ready for the tables to turn as 4 teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever! Grab something sweet at the concession stand and get ready to forget about the stresses of the week in this action packed film.
Instructor Underground: Okay, let’s be real here- How many times have you been in a workout class where you are literally counting down the seconds until you can run out the door because the instructor is just not your type? SoulCycle: If you’re looking for a way to pump up your Saturday morning, we know the perfect workout class for you! Located in the Flatiron area, we recommend Mantas’ 10:30 AM class at the 19th St SoulCycle studio. If there is an instructor that knows his Saturday morning audience, it’s Mantas. Due to the young professional crowd that braces this class, the music immediately drops into one of his crowd pleaser techno-remix songs. The entire room lights up as you feel the incredible energy. Yes- actual light show included! Mantas has a really unique teaching style that is great for people who love traditional HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts, but are hesitant about spinning. He was one of the first instructors to incorporate moves like plank ups during sprints and treat his arms sections like normal arm workouts at the gym, but with your legs moving at the same time. Pro Tip: HIIT is also known as the best 'fat-blasting' workout, so this is the perfect class to take before indulging at &Pizza (up next!).
&Pizza: Nothing can go wrong at a DIY pizza place that has UNLIMITED TOPPINGS! So, naturally, after you leave SoulCycle, take a quick 11-minute walk to this fun new spot. Let us start off by saying how modern and cool the design of the store is! Everything is black and white, which gives off a very chill vibe. It's super spacious, with long tables that provide plenty of seating. The menu has pre-suggested combinations of what to put on your pizza (which we loved!), but you can also satisfy your every craving by choosing from the large selection of different ingredients, sauces, and toppings to create your own personalized pizza! We thought the “Moonstruck, mushroom experience” with mushroom truffle, garlic ricotta, mozzarella, mushroom, grilled onion, goat cheese, and fig balsamic was so delicious! If you’re looking for a healthier option, the salad pizza with olive oil, romaine, basil pesto, cucumber, tomato, shredded mozzarella, and pickled red onion was also a big hit at our table. The actual pizza is nice and thin, which makes it super crunchy. We definitely recommend coming with a group and sharing, as each pizza is pretty big – plus you won’t mind getting a bunch since each is only $11!
Boilermaker: By now you know #YWP is always on the hunt for the seasonal Christmas pop-ups that are “worth it”! This Sippin' Santa's Surf Shack definitely made the cut. If you combined the holidays with some Hawaiian and island culture, then you’d find yourself ordering drinks right in the middle of this bar! Boilermaker, on the border of the Lower East Side and the East Village, transforms their space with wrapped gifts hanging from the ceiling and plastic flamingos wearing Santa hats so you can enjoy any of their 9 themed cocktails. Each one is served in specialty glassware, like a mug of Santa’s head, a mug of Santa’s pants, a coconut, and many more! All cocktails use the flavors of the season including sparkling wine and cranberry – ugly Christmas sweater not included but highly recommended!
2nd Ave Deli: 2nd Avenue Deli is a personal favorite for us whether in Midtown or on the Upper East Side. There is truly nothing like ordering some sandwiches, home made coleslaw, and soup on those frozen cold nights here in New York City. To make it even better, they have now added a second-floor cocktail bar to their Upper East Side location. Called 2nd Floor (we would have been happy to help come up with a latke pun!), the bar is here to reintroduce the classic Jewish delicatessen to the overflowing millennial crew that has made their way uptown. The bar menu stands to be one of a kind, in that all food and drinks are certified kosher. Most ingredients are not ones you’re likely to find at other cocktail bars around town including syrups from Manischewitz wine and Dr. Brown’s cream soda. Our personal favorite was “The Shofar”, which is a total spin on Rosh Hashanah holiday flavors with Apple Brandy, House Grenadine, honey, lime, baked apple, and cinnamon. Although the menu is modern (they also have tons of small bites to try!) the space looks like it’s been there forever with dark floors and Yiddish movie posters. Whether you’re a long time standing 2nd Ave Deli customer or not, this is a great place to spend your Sunday exploring fun drinks and comfort foods in a super cozy environment! Pro Tip: Remember to take home some of their chocolate rugelach at the checkout counter on your way out, you’ll thank us later in the week!
