October 19-21

Friday Night:

NYLO Hotel: NYLO New York City, a boutique hotel on the Upper West Side, has transformed its 16th floor balcony into a “Secret Beach” for you to soak in the final rays of sun until the end of October! Their hidden outdoor terrace with sweeping views of the Upper West Side is open every Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm-10pm until October 27th. The summer-centric cocktail menu was practically made for your Instagram feed, featuring signature cocktails like the Rum Traitor which is made with rum, Szechuan peppercorn, and pineapple, finished off with a gold leaf and served on a treasure map in 2 wooden barrel cups. But that’s not all, the Finding Nori is served over sea rocks, topped with grapefruit seafoam, sprinkled with nori, and poured tableside out of a ship in a bottle. Guests hanging on to the last legs of time spent by the ocean can enjoy the Basic Beach, a cocktail comprising Navy Strength Gin, Blue Curacao, lemon tonic, and coconut sparkling water. The cocktail is served resting in edible cookie sand with a candy beach ball and a shovel to dig for chocolate sea shells! Don’t forget about the hotel bar, also located downstairs, which is open to the street for great people watching and has food service from Serafinas which is connected to the hotel!

Saturday:

Nightmare Machine: Presented by the team that brought you Dream Machine (in a previous @yourweekendplans!) -  #NightmareMachine is the culmination of scary and shareable, with rooms that bring you spooky experiences and boo-tiful photo backdrops. Some of our favorites from the Halloween-inspired adult playground included the #YannyVsLaurel millennial graveyard and alien UFO’s. We wouldn’t call this a haunted house exactly, but keep your eyes open for everything from fake cockroaches to clowns around every corner. The scariest part may be asking one of the staff members to take your photo, but have no fear, they are so happy to take your picture and even styled us for multiple grams! Get in the holiday spirit and visit Nightmare Machine by buying your tickets here before it closes on October 31st.

L’Industrie Pizza: L’Industrie Pizzeria, about a 14-minute walk from the pop-up exhibit, is just the slice of pizza you need to cure all of your nightmares! It’s a super tiny pizza shop with just a couple of stools and outdoor tables, so keep your eye out for it when you’re getting close. They offer pies, as well as slices, which are all completely customizable no matter how many you order! Although well known for their pizza slice with fresh burrata on top (which we had to try!), the real winner in our opinion was the fig and goat cheese slice which tasted like a literal slice of heaven. Massimo, the owner, makes all the pizza’s himself, and everyone there made sure we were steered in the right direction when making the tough decision on what to order. Everything from the charm to the actual ingredients were seriously on point, but remember, it’s cash only!

Republic of Booza: Republic of Booza, which you have probably seen circulating the internet, is the ice cream famous for its elasticity and stretch! If you're one to like unique flavors and delicacies, then this dessert, which is usually only found in the eastern Mediterranean, should go on your list. Only a 11-minute walk from L’industrie, you'll find tons of original flavors of Booza. The ice cream is pounded with large wooden mallets, pulled, stretched, and twirled around before reaching your cone. The blackberry color caught our eye from the start, but with options like bloody mary sorbet and mint tahini chip, how can you choose? The salted oreo was definitely the stand out winner for us, but the texture had us questioning whether it was gelato, ice cream, sorbet or just plain gum the entire time! It’s worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood but we may stick with plain old frozen yogurt in the long run!  

Saturday Night:

Au Zaatar: Au Zaatar, a Lebanese/Middle Eastern Restaurant, located in the East Village, is letting you in on the ultimate shawarma experience. This is definitely a place to come with a lot of people, since everything is great for sharing! Offering what they call, table side spinners (Pro Tip: It’s not on the menu, so make sure to ask your server about it!), you essentially receive a mini roasting pit right at your table! Each spit comes complete a bed of pita bread, vegetables, and TONS of fries. All types of meat are available, including beef, chicken, and lamb, so slice your meat, let it fall onto the plate, and scoop up to enjoy! We recommend starting with the dip sampler tray to satisfy all of your hummus cravings, plus all of the dips are great alongside the shawarma. We will admit, the table side shawarma is delicious and GREAT for your Instagram, but if you don’t care about gimmicks, photo opps, or a mountain of french fries, we recommend ordering something else from their HUGE menu that will get you a better bang for your buck!

Sunday:

Fairy Island: Until Saturday, November 17th, experience the magical wonderland that is Fairy Island. Fairy Island is an interactive pop-up exhibit, that portrays a dream land full of 6 magical installations including a confetti room, sparkling unicorns, and giant gold bird cages! Fairy Island aimed to create an escape from the hectic world of New York City, all while being able to flaunt colorful Instagram photos all at the same time. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance here, and turn your thinking cap on for this activity! The last room is yet to be titled and it is open for the public to name, so if you’re the person who gives the best fitting name, stand by for a *secret* special prize!

Sons Of Thunder: Sons Of Thunder, only an 11-minute walk, from your fairy godmother, is among our favorite spots for a poké fix. We actually get some “Shake Shack”  vibes here, in terms of the design and set up, but with a major Hawaiian flair, of course. This month only, at both the Murray Hill and FiDi locations, the California inspired eatery will offer a limited time only pink poke bowl, featuring fresh cut ahi tuna, pickled ginger, pickled onions, watermelon radish, and fresh pomegranate seeds in honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. 20% of all proceeds from each purchase will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This special, limited time dish with pink-hued ingredients not only looks pretty, but gives back to an amazing cause. Make sure to stop in within the next two weeks!
